Highlights
The following are some highlights of the 149th Commencement of Syracuse
University and the 106th Commencement of the State University of
New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry, held May
11 in the Carrier Dome.
SU Degrees
Conferred:
4,875 (total); 2,756 bachelors degrees; 1,640 masters
degrees; 183 doctoral degrees; 247 juris doctor degrees (awarded
by the College of Law on May 18); 41 certificates of advanced study;
8 associates degrees.
SUNY ESF
Degrees Conferred: 497 (total); 272 bachelors degrees;
172 masters degrees; 53 doctoral degrees.
Honorary
Degree Recipients: Helen Boatwright, soprano performer, doctor
of music; George W. Campbell Jr. G77, president of The Cooper
Union for the Advancement of Science and Art, doctor of science;
William F. Walsh, former Syracuse mayor and U.S. congressman, doctor
of laws.
Commencement
Speaker: Bill Clinton, 42nd President of the United States.
